American retail giant, Amazon is planning to set up headquarters in Africa. The City of Cape Town in South Africa has approved R4-billion River Club mixed-use development as the new home for the shopping company.

According to the City mayor Dan Plato, Amazon will be the anchor tenant, a base of operations for African continent.
“The planned mixed-use development will be a significant boost to the economy and the people of Cape Town in the aftermath of the national Covid-19 lockdown,” said Plato.

The development area will include Precinct 1; mixed used and a floor space of approximately 60,000 sqm and Precinct 2 which will house the Amazon headquarters, which is 70,000 sqm of floor space.

The city said the development will be market-driven with affordable housing opportunities which will be physically integrated with the other residential units in the apartment complexes.

The project will create about 19,000 jobs and is envisaged to take place in phases over three to five years... businesstech.co.za
