August 29, 2026 — The United Arab Emirates has formally integrated a space-based tier into its national digital infrastructure by awarding a 10-year operating license to Starlink, the low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet constellation managed by Elon Musk's SpaceX.
The regulatory clearance, issued by the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), permits Starlink Satellite Communications LLC to establish, operate, and manage a public satellite telecommunications network across all seven emirates.
Broad Scope of Service
The new 10-year General Space Services License legally authorizes Starlink internet to deliver broadband services spanning several key consumer and commercial markets:
- Public & Corporate Sectors: The high-speed internet packages are authorized for individual residents, private enterprises, and government institutions.
- Transportation & Transit: The regulatory scope directly covers high-yield satellite connectivity for both the maritime shipping industry and the aviation sector.
